What You’ll Do
As one of Enjoin’s Clinical Documentation Specialists, you’ll evaluate and improve clinical documentation to ensure accurate representation of patient severity, support compliant coding practices, and enhance overall data integrity and reimbursement outcomes. This role requires strong clinical judgment, deep knowledge of documentation standards and regulatory guidelines, and the ability to communicate effectively with healthcare providers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Review clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and clinical validity – Analyze inpatient medical records to identify documentation opportunities and ensure clinical stories are fully captured
- Partner with providers to improve documentation practices – Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to strengthen documentation quality through education and clear communication
- Identify documentation gaps and initiate compliant queries – Recognize opportunities for clarification and generate queries that align with AHIMA and ACDIS best practices
- Support accurate DRG assignment and coding outcomes – Ensure documentation supports appropriate severity of illness and risk of mortality indicators
- Ensure adherence to AHIMA/ACDIS guidelines and regulatory standards – Maintain compliance with CMS regulations, IPPS updates, and quality measure requirements
- Maintain accurate workflow documentation and reporting – Track findings, query responses, and performance metrics to support continuous improvement
- Collaborate with board-certified physicians on complex cases – Partner with Enjoin’s physician advisors to validate clinical scenarios and ensure defensibility
- Stay current on regulatory updates – Proactively monitor changes to CMS guidelines, HCC coding, quality measures, and industry best practices

Clinical Documentation Specialist Qualifications
We are looking for experienced CDI professionals with strong clinical judgment, regulatory knowledge, and a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
Required qualifications:
- Credentials: RN required; CCDS or CDIP certification preferred
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of inpatient CDI experience
- Clinical knowledge: Strong understanding of complex disease processes, treatments, and clinical terminology
- Documentation expertise: Deep knowledge of documentation standards, query practices, and CDI best practices
- DRG methodology: Working knowledge of MS-DRG and APR-DRG classification systems
- Regulatory knowledge: Familiarity with IPPS, CMS measures, HCC coding, and quality reporting requirements
- EHR proficiency: Experience with electronic health record systems such as Epic or Meditech
- Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, including provider-facing interaction
- Remote-ready: Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing workload effectively and staying connected to the team
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working with physician advisors or in physician-led review environments
- Background in denial prevention or appeals
- Familiarity with risk adjustment methodologies and value-based care initiatives
- Prior consulting or multi-facility healthcare experience
